Phlebotomy & EKG Combined Program
Madison Institute of Healthcare Careersl offers a combined Phlebotomy and Electrocardiography (EKG) Training program. The course has two modules. Module A consists of the phlebotomy portion and Module B is involved with the electrocardiography. This course is seven weeks and consists of comprehensive lectures and laboratory sessions covering phlebotomy and EKG techniques, procedures and equipment. Course work also includes laboratory safety, infection control, medical terminology, anatomy and physiology appropriate to the areas of phlebotomy and EKG, hematology, scheduling appointments and assisting physicians in more specialized cardiac testing. Issues dealing with patient contact, medical ethics, and medical legal principles are taught.
This course trains students to be effective participants in a medical laboratory and clinical team. Upon successful completion of the course, students are eligible to sit for the individual national certification exams for phlebotomy and electrocardiography. Graduates can seek employment as a phlebotomist and EKG technician in hospitals, diagnostic laboratories, medical clinics, physician’s offices and other medical facilities.
Program Admission Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED certificate
- Complete an application form and pay the $150 registration fee (non refundable)
- No healthcare or medical office work experience is required
- Complete a general physical exam (application at school), documentation of recent two-step TB skin test, proof of PPD, Tetanus/Diphtheria, Rubella/Measles vaccine, Hepatitis B vaccine. Students are responsible for all costs associated with meeting these requirements.

Program Basics:
- Certificate of Completion requiring 7 weeks to complete
- Classes in the morning, evening and during weekends
- Student must achieve a 70% in the course to be eligible to progress and obtain certification
